Sunny Hostin criticized society's obsession with celebrity bodies.
"The sort of cult of celebrity is always interesting to me," she said.
"Like, why look to a complete stranger for inspiration? You don’t know what’s going on in that person’s life."
She pointed out that Gomez has lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects her weight.
"She may have lost this weight for her health condition," Hostin said.
Whoopi Goldberg agreed, noting, "It’s nobody’s business."
"Listen, everybody makes their choice in life," Goldberg said.
"People don’t realize celebrities have their own personal struggles."
Gomez has long been public about how online criticism has affected her.
"I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don’t need to see it; I participated," she said in a 2019 episode of Giving Back Generation.
"I felt wonderful and that’s where the extent of it is."
