Rare photographs, including signed snaps of The Doors frontman Jim Morrison taken before the rockstar's sudden death, were sold at auction on June 19 for $12,523.

The photo set was provided by Don Hickman, who took the photos on April 20, 1968, after winning 'A Day with The Doors' contest and spending a wild night with the rock legends at just fourteen years old.

Nearly six decades after that epic and unforgettable night, the extremely rare candid photos he took and the autographs he collected backstage, including one shot of him with the rock legend, went up for auction earlier this month.

Ahead of the release of their third album, the teenager won a local radio and television contest that granted him a VIP ticket to the band's concert at the C.N.E. Coliseum in Toronto. Hickman was picked up by a limousine and rode with the band as they went bar-hopping on Yonge Street before the show.

The five-song set was reportedly delayed due to the lead singer's drunken state.

The Doors were known for their hit songs Light My Fire and Break On Through (To the Other Side).

The band's singer Jim Morrison died in Paris on July 3, 1971, at the age of 27, shortly after fellow rock stars Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones. Artists who passed away at that age have since been known as members of 'The 27 Club,' including Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jim's longtime girlfriend Pamela Courson.

In 1993, Jim was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members of the band. He is considered to be among the greatest rock singers of all time.

The rock star was portrayed by the late actor Val Kilmer in the 1991 Oliver Stone biopic 'The Doors,' which was panned by the surviving members of the group.

A 2009 documentary narrated by Johnny Depp titled 'When Your Strange' debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and featured archival footage of the charismatic frontman, including performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

The super-rare collection of memorabilia, which included 12 vintage glossy 35mm Kodak Brownie photos taken by the lucky teen and several autographed promotional images, was sold by RR Auction for a staggering amount, proving that Jim's legacy continues decades after his death.
