An unexpected U.S. state has now become a major crossing point for illegal immigration under President Donald Trump's administration, and it is nowhere near the southern border.
Maine recorded the highest number of migrant crossings in 24 years last April, the U.S. Border Patrol said, amid the Supreme Court greenlighting a potential Trump administration plan that places 350,000 Venezuelan migrants at the risk of deportation.
While the state usually saw 25 to 50 crossings a month during former President Joe Biden's term, the Border Patrol's Houlton Sector arrested 113 people in April, The Daily Mail reported.

The migrants who entered through Maine hail from 16 different countries.
Of these, 42 are from Ecuador, 12 are from Mexico, and 15 are from Guatemala, the three highest numbers. Six of the migrants came from Venezuela.

The numbers have risen steadily from 52 in February and 72 in March to 113 in April, a record high.
