Strong gales to smash LA as fog blast smothers city in week-long weather hell
Los Angeles braces for a week of swirling winds and creeping fog, as the city manages to stave off extreme heat for now
After extreme temperatures smashed much of California, Los Angeles is set to be hit with wind and fog over the week.
It is predicted to remain below average for the remainder of the week, but conditions are expected to warm up going into next week.
Locals in the LA area should prepare for some foggy conditions, as the marine layer looks set to affect the coast and coastal valleys throughout the next few days.
What is the weather forecast?
As the area will remain a few degrees below average temperature-wise for much of the week, this will gradually begin to warm as the week goes on.
By Sunday, we’ll be hitting the sweet spot of 83°F.
According to the National Weather Service, marine layer clouds will be affecting the coasts and coastal valleys, and onshore winds of up to 20 to 35 mph will continue over the Antelope Valley, the I-5 Corridor, and interior San Luis Obispo County.
Winds of up to 35mph are considered strong, so it's important to take precautions as this wind speed can pose risks. Read the advice for dealing with these conditions below.
The NWS expects these winds to recur each afternoon, along with some overnight breezy northerly winds affecting interior mountains. Fog looks likely to make an appearance going into Thursday as well.
While fog and wind are expected throughout the week, we can expect dry conditions, with no rain expected so far for the area.
Advice for strong windy conditions
Winds of up to 35mph are consistent with a wind advisory, according to the NWS.
When driving, do watch for objects being blown onto the road, and take extra care not to drive too fast.
It’s a good idea to weather-proof your home when strong winds are coming. In your garden, bring in or secure items such as patio furniture, garbage cans, and any other items that could be blown away or cause damage.
Another good tip is to make sure all doors and windows are closed and securely fastened.
