World No. 9 suffers humiliating French Open first-round defeat as pundit shade star
Emma Navarro fell victim to a huge upset on day two of the French Open
The French Open witnessed a colossal upset on day two as world No. 9 Emma Navarro was ousted in the first round.
Last year's fourth-round achiever, the American player fell flat this year, succumbing to an unseeded Spanish adversary, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who fearlessly took a lead.
Commentator Matt Chilton delivered a stinging remark during her dominant run: "Got the bagel in the first set and now applying smoked salmon and cream cheese to it in the second set."

Despite breaking serve to avoid the dreaded 'double bagel,' Navarro couldn't turn the tide, ending with a 6-0 6-1 loss, colloquially termed a 'bagel and a breadstick.' Bouzas Maneiro's posted another striking Grand Slame performance, following up last year's upset against Marketa Vondrousova at Wimbledon.
"Right now I just feel really happy how I played today, how I was handling pressure and nerves for the first round here. Last year was tough for me and I wanted to do my best, and I think I did it, so happy for that," Bouzas Maneiro said.
"I just think that everything is possible, I try to play my best every match. I have my team here, I knew that I have a lot of support and we prepared as well for the match as we could. Of course I didn’t expect this score, this result! But yeah, I’m happy.
"I have no idea [how I won in 57 minutes]. Really quick, and it’s funny because my team just told me, ‘Is it possible to win a match in two sets?’
"Because the last two were three sets. They said to me, ‘Is that possible?’ I said, ‘I will try to do my best!’ So for you guys, one hour, finally!"
Bouzas Maneiro's inspiration for the performance may have come from attending a presentation for compatriot Rafael Nadal, who was honored at Rolland Garros on Sunday. She had questioned whether it was the right preparation for her — but it turned out not to be an issue.

"I was there, I cried a bit! It was so emotional, I had no idea if it was good for me to be there or not because I was a little bit sad," the Spaniard said.
"But of course he gave all of the best for tennis, Spanish tennis and for the world. For me, it’s my idol, he’s one of the best players in the world. For me, he’s the best so happy for him, and how they prepared everything was so beautiful."
