Apple Martin, daughter of Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, has clarified her career aspirations, revealing she’s more drawn to theater than film.

Speaking with Interview magazine, the 20-year-old Vanderbilt University student shared that while she enjoys performing, she’s pursuing a degree in law, history, and society.

“I’m in the lovely Vanderbilt Original Cast, the esteemed cabaret theater group,” Apple said. “This semester’s show is a musical parody of Love Island called Love on an Island. It’s so fun. The songs are phenomenal.”

Although acting is not her major, Apple admitted she might take a theater course before she graduates.

“It’s a fun balance between my very different extracurriculars and my major,” she explained.

When asked about her long-term career plans, she reflected on why she once considered law.

“The reason why I was originally like, ‘Maybe I’ll be a lawyer,’ was because I loved acting, but I was insecure and nervous,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, if I’m a lawyer, I can perform on the stage in a trial setting.’”

Apple also admitted she once fantasized about following in Legally Blonde character Elle Woods’ footsteps. “It’s insane that I thought that. Also I cannot lie, I was like, ‘I’ll just be Elle Woods.’ It’s a lot harder than it looks.”

Despite her family’s Hollywood ties, Apple said she’s more interested in live theater.

“I would love to do theater because I adore it so much,” she shared. “I’ve obviously never done film before, but I’ve been trying to get involved in student films. I was born a theater kid.”

Apple also addressed the online backlash she faced after attending Le Bal des Debutantes in November 2024. A viral video led to accusations of her being a “mean girl” for allegedly stealing the spotlight from another debutante.

While she didn’t directly reference the controversy, she acknowledged the impact of online criticism. “After the Chanel show, I did [read upsetting comments]. Then I quickly realized why everybody has always said, ‘Don’t do it.’ Because even if you see a million positive things, there can be one thing that absolutely wrecks you.”
