David Hasselhoff is reportedly "living on borrowed time" according to a source close to the actor.

The Hollywood star, who rose to fame in shows such as Baywatch and Knight Rider, was seen in a wheelchair at Cancun Airport in Mexico on Monday before limping through LAX in California with his wife, Hayley.

Dressed in a striped shirt, black baseball cap and slacks, David gave a thumbs up while leaning heavily on his Welsh wife. The couple has been married for seven years and were returning home from a vacation in Mexico.

These photos were taken just weeks after the tragic suicide of David's ex, Pamela Bach, which reportedly left the Knight Rider star and his family "deeply saddened."

A source close to the father-of-two spoke about David's health following the tragedy, telling the Daily Mail: "David is living on borrowed time and has lived hard.

"He had a life that people could only dream of but he also spent decades self-medicating through alcohol and other substances, which he does regret."

The source added that although David is now sober, his health "has been declining for some time," due to "decades of alcoholism".

They also highlighted his age and his major surgeries, including having a defibrillator fitted to prevent a heart attack, concluding: "He knows that every surgery could be the last."

However, when the Mirror UK reached out, a representative for David stated he was "fine" and was using a wheelchair due to an upcoming knee surgery, explaining: "He's doing fine and actually they were returning from a great vacation in Cancun.

"He is scheduled to have knee surgery next week, hence the wheelchair."

It is reported that David's struggles with alcohol played a part in the breakdown of his marriage to Pamela, who tragically passed away at 61 in her Hollywood Hills home on March 5.

Emergency responders found Pamela dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her home. David, with whom she had two daughters, expressed through a spokesperson that his family was "deeply saddened" by her passing.

Pamela had previously stated that alcohol was a major factor in her split from David, claiming it had begun to take over his life.

She described her husband as someone struggling with the destructive effects of alcohol, telling the Daily Mail: "To me, he was the man who fell over on the bedroom floor. He has a disease, just like cancer. And just like cancer, it ate away at our family from the inside."

Despite her profound love for David, Pamela admitted: "I always believed in happy Hollywood endings, but our story doesn't have one."

The couple first met on the set of Knight Rider in 1986. At that time, he was married to his first wife and co-star Catherine Hickland, while Pamela was in a relationship with a comedian.

In 1989, David and Catherine ended their marriage. That same year, he reconnected with Pamela on the set of Baywatch, where she had landed a minor role.

After a whirlwind romance of nine months, Pamela was pregnant, prompting them to hasten their nuptials before ultimately parting ways in 2006.
