This included trying to get close to Kate Middleton. While the two are now estranged, there was a time when it seemed like they would form a close friendship.

In fact, they often attended royal family events together. This included Meghan's first Trooping the Color appearance in 2018, which Prince Harry wrote about in his bombshell memoir, Spare.

The event took place shortly after Harry and Meghan returned from their honeymoon. Writing in the book, Harry said the atmosphere that day had been "good" and "upbeat."

However, a lighthearted joke from Meghan soon soured the mood, according to Harry.

"Kate asked Meg what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour. And Meg joked: Colourful," Harry wrote.

While Meghan might have been expecting Kate to laugh, however, the Princess of Wales wasn't impressed. Instead, Harry said there was an awkward silence that followed.

"A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole," the Duke of Sussex recalled.

According to a lip reader, Meghan had been nervous during her Trooping the Color debut. They told The Mirror at the time that the Duchess of Sussex was a little less sure of herself despite smiling and waving to the crowd.

The lip reader said Harry turned to his wife and simply asked, "Okay?" Meghan simply replied, "Yeah, are you?"

Meghan then admitted she was "nervous," with Harry making sure to keep checking on the Duchess of Sussex. "Okay?" he later asked again, according to the lip reader.
