Walmart recalls popular produce item in 12 Texas stores over salmonella concerns
Walmart has issued a voluntary recall for its Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices in a clear circular plastic container and white label, dated up to May 24, 2025
Walmart has begun pulling a popular produce item from the shelves in twelve Texas stores due to potential health concerns. The company has voluntarily recalled its Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices over fears of possible Salmonella contamination.
Newsweek reported that the fresh-cut cucumber was packaged in a clear round plastic container with a white label, bearing the code 00262969000006 and dated up to May 24, 2025. A total of 522 units of the product are being recalled.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this recall as Class I, the most serious warning level, indicating significant health risks to the public. The FDA issues Class I recalls for products that pose a severe health risk or death.

Salmonella infections primarily threaten young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, but can also cause serious gastrointestinal issues in healthy individuals.
If consumed, the affected cucumber slices may cause symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. In severe cases, hospitalization might be necessary.
The FDA advises anyone with cucumbers at home to dispose of them if they are uncertain about their origin. Businesses are urged not to sell these cucumbers and to inform customers who may have consumed them prior to the recall.
Customers who purchased the recalled cucumbers from grocery stores such as Walmart, Kroger, and Harris Teeter can return them to the store for a refund.
In addition, the FDA recommends that consumers and businesses thoroughly clean and sanitize any surfaces and utensils that may have come into contact with the cucumbers. For home cleaning, hot, soapy water or a dishwasher is recommended.
The product was distributed at 12 Walmart retail locations in Texas: Ennis, Palestine, Longview, Benbrook/Fort Worth, Wichita Falls, Frisco (Stonebrook), Longview (Southeast), Saginaw, Rockwall, Lindale, Irving, and Paris. However, as of May 22, when Walmart announced the recall, there had been no reported illnesses related to the product.
Over the past month, Walmart has initiated or updated several product recalls across its stores due to risks of undeclared allergens, packaging issues, and other concerns. Some of these recalls were specifically due to the presence of undeclared allergens.
