Topo Chico mineral water has been recalled in several US states amid concerns over possible bacterial contamination.

Coca-Cola said the bottles were taken off shelves at 40 stores across Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas.

The recalled items include 18-packs of 16.9-ounce Topo Chico mineral water bought between May 20 and May 29 at texas and Louisiana stores.

Costco said the water was recalled due to the possibility of contamination with pseudomonas - a bacteria that can be naturally found in water sources.

“The health consequences of consuming mineral water with the presence of pseudomonas aeruginosa is considered to be very low in healthy individuals with potential minor health consequences if consumed by individuals with weakened immune systems,” Costco said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), pseudomonas aeruginosa infection is a condition that can affect your skin, blood, lungs, GI tract and other parts of your body.

The CDC warns the infection can be serious and potentially deadly for those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms can include chills, fatigue, fever, muscle pain, diarrhea, hearing loss and nausea.

Coca-Cola said no illnesses have been reported.

Customers who purchased the product with lot numbers 11A2543, 12A2543, or 13A2541 are being urged to return the items to the store for an exchange or refund.
