The Ukrainian miltary has claimed it has "pinned down 50,000 Russian troops" and halted Russia's recent advance in the northern Sumy region.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi on Thursday said his troops were reclaiming ground in the region.

He said Ukraine's army prevented Russia from deploying about 50,000 Russian soldiers to other areas of the front line. It comes as new Donald Trump health fears erupted following a disturbing Air Force One video.

"In certain areas, our units are liberating Ukrainian territory," he told the Kyiv Independent.

"In the North Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, we have once again pinned down about 50,000 Russian Armed Forces personnel," he added, without providing further details. Russian officials made no immediate comment on the claims.

Russia’s push into the Sumy region earlier this year prompted Ukraine to strengthen its defenses there.

It comes as international efforts to end the three-year conflict fail.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday met with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit, where the pair discussed the possibility of Ukraine producing drones with US companies and buying US air defense systems.

Zelensky added that he told Trump “Putin is definitely not winning."

Trump left open the possibility of sending Kyiv more American-made Patriot air defense missile systems.

During his presidential campaign, Trump pledged to end the war. But since taking office, he has struggled to find a resolution to the conflict.

The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces on Thursday said Russia suffered 1,015,750 casualties in Ukraine since the beginning of the war in 2022.

The General staff said the figure included 1,100 casualties that Russian forces suffered over the past day.
