Donald Trump's nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize has been torn up
President this week managed to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran but his award submission has now been withdrawn
Donald Trump's hopes of winning a Nobel Peace Prize had suffered a blow after his nomination was scrapped over his dealings with a rival superpower.
The withdrawal came after a Ukrainian official who had previously supported Trump's candidacy changed his stance due to Trump's perceived conciliation towards Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who has shown aggressive inclinations toward Ukraine.
Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Committee, retracted the nomination he initially made last year, citing Trump's act of 'appeasing' Putin amidst ongoing hostilities as the reason, reports the Mirror US.
Merezhko, in his communication with the Nobel committee, said: "This appeasement of aggression encourages Putin to continue the attack, Trump just turns a blind eye to all of it.
"I lost any kind of faith that Trump will deliver in any of his promises."

He also commented on the Middle Eastern situation: "I understand his position in relation to Israel, it is the right thing to do in order to help Israel to survive because Iran has said they want to destroy Israel."
However, Merezhko expressed disappointment on behalf of Ukraine, rby saying: "I wish he would do the same for Ukraine. Russia also wants to destroy Ukraine, Russia and Iran help each other, Trump should be consistent and help Ukraine.
"Ukraine did everything Trump wanted. We agreed to all the ceasefire demands, including the mineral deal. My goal was to give a push in the direction of peace with the nomination. He has failed to deliver on his promises.
"This seriously undermines US credibility on the world stage. Each day we're being bombarded but Trump doesn't care. My goal with the nomination was to give a push in the direction of peace".
"My hope was that [Mr Trump] was sincere, he has failed to deliver on his promises.
"I cannot in all good conscience support President Trump's nomination for nor receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize."
Merezhko had put forth Trump's name for the Nobel Peace Prize as a nod to his involvement in the Abraham Accords, which sought to establish normalized relations between Israel and various Middle Eastern nations, and to motivate him to foster peace in Ukraine.
