Billy Horschel, the PGA Tour star, has sent out a heartfelt message of solidarity to individuals grappling with addiction, as he celebrated his wife Brittany's nine-year milestone of sobriety.

Always open about Brittany's struggles with alcoholism, the Horschels hope their frankness can offer solace and inspiration to others facing analogous challenges, with the celebrated golfer taking to social media to deliver a touching tribute.

Horschel, currently sidelined by a hip injury that may keep him out of the game for an extended period, commended his spouse's success and directed those in need to sources for battling addiction.

"Nine years sober today for my wife, Brittany," Horschel shared. "Amazing to see the transformation over the last nine years. So proud of her! The message I have for anyone who is struggling with addiction is, it's possible. Millions of people have made the choice before you, that they are tired of letting their addiction ruin their life, and that they want to live a sober lifestyle now.

"There are groups, rehabs, therapists, wherever you live, that will help you get sober. But you have to take the first step on the path of sobriety. Wherever I go, I come across people that let me know that they are sober. And they tell me it's the best decision they ever made for themselves.

"They are living a healthier lifestyle, enjoying life now more than ever before. It's amazing to hear their stories and how many days, months, years they have been sober. So it's possible! You and only you, can take that first step! Then there will be people willing to take the continuous steps with you after."

Brittany has been candid about her sobriety journey through her blog, The Sober Modern Mom. Marking her seventh year of sobriety in an emotional blog post two years ago, Brittany looked back on the time before she got sober, revealing how her addiction was "killing" her.

She wrote: "My drinking days were normal A LOT. My drinking was not always at the rock bottom stage. For years, it was just there. Wine at night, cocktails at games, drinks at concerts, day drinking fun, excuses, celebrations, good days, bad days, you know how it goes. It looked a lot like a 'normal day' in society.

"It looked a lot like a 'normal day' in society. I looked happy, heck, I was happy. Until I wasn't. When was the turn? I couldn't tell you, but it morphed into an uncontrollable downward spiral. Slowly, I came became more and more depressed, my anxiety grew, my body and face changed and then, before I knew it, I was someone I didn't recognize.

"The alcohol ate away at my body and soul, crushed my confidence, and told me lies. I know, that sounds extreme and dramatic. But it's not. It's the absolute, one hundred percent truth. Alcohol depleted my body and corroded by brain.

"That is what it does, it poisons you. The more I drank to make myself 'feel better,' the more I was poisoning myself. I was killing myself."

Currently ranked 26th in the world, Horschel had his sights set on a spot in the US Ryder Cup team; however, he recently underwent hip surgery that will likely sideline him until late summer.
