Austrian GP results: Lando Norris edges Oscar Piastri after Max Verstappen crash
Lando Norris secured a lights-to-flag victory at the Red Bull Ring, with Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz all failing to finish the race in Spielberg
Lando Norris triumphed over teammate Oscar Piastri in the Austrian Grand Prix, reducing the championship leader's advantage on Red Bull's home turf. While McLaren had a day to remember, it was a forgettable outing for Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz, who all failed to finish.
The race start was delayed by 10 minutes after Sainz's Williams stalled, leading to a frenzied first lap. Piastri managed to overtake Charles Leclerc for P2, while Antonelli crashed into Verstappen's car at Turn Three after locking his rear tires.
With the reigning world champion out of the picture, Norris and Piastri were left to duel at the front, knowing their closest external title rival was no longer in contention. For 20 laps, the Australian chased his teammate, but the pole-sitter held firm until the first round of pit stops.

When Piastri returned from the pit lane several laps after Norris, the gap had widened to six seconds, giving the Brit some much-needed breathing space. Meanwhile, the mayhem continued as Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto collided at Turn Four, damaging both cars.
In the second half of the race, Piastri had a close call when he was forced onto the grass by Franco Colapinto, but he managed to regain control and close the gap on Norris to less than two seconds.
A tussle between Fernando Alonso and Gabriel Bortoleto threatened to disrupt Piastri's momentum and potentially impact the final outcome. However, Norris held his ground, rounding Turn 10 ahead of the pack to secure his third Grand Prix win of the season.
