Stand-up comedian Sarah Silverman has dropped a bombshell about her family's dark past, revealing that her grandfather was responsible for the death of her baby brother.

The 54-year-old comic, known for her autobiography "The Bedwetter," which she turned into an off-Broadway musical in 2022, was led to believe her three-month-old brother Jeffrey, who passed away before she was born, had died from suffocation.

In a stunning twist, Silverman now asserts that her father, Donald, confided in her that his father had violently shaken the infant, leading to his death.

In a recent candid interview, Sarah shared: "The story was that something happened with the crib, and Jeffrey's little body slid and he suffocated. But if you look back, there was never a lawsuit with the crib company or anything."

During a conversation with Rolling Stone, she revealed the devastating truth her father disclosed to her.

According to Sarah, before Donald passed away in 2023, he expressed his belief that Jeffrey was murdered by his 'violent' grandfather, who lost control and shook the baby in anger.

Reflecting on her father's words, the ex-SNL comedian recounted: "I always felt that he was crying or something, and my dad shook him. He shook him in a rage and killed him."

Sarah admitted that once her father spoke those words, everything clicked into place: "As soon as he said it, it was like: 'Of course, that's what happened,"'

In her memoir published in 2010, Sarah noted that her parents had initially concocted a consistent narrative about Jeffrey's demise, claiming that he had accidentally suffocated.

In the memoir, Sarah reveals that when her parents, Donald and Beth Ann, went on vacation, her grandparents Max and Rose babysat her brother Jeffrey. According to Max, he would check on the crying infant at night because Rose struggled with hearing.

One fateful morning, Max discovered that baby Jeffrey had suffocated. Years later, in 2022, Donald attended a stage adaptation of Sarah's memoir in Manhattan, watching it five consecutive nights.

The show included a scene where young Sarah makes a joke about her brother's death to her grandmother, leaving the audience stunned. After the fifth performance, Sarah claims Donald revealed to her backstage that her grandfather, Max, was responsible for Jeffrey's death.

Sarah recalled, "[Donald's] mother always stood by her husband. She watched him beat the s*** out of her son. I couldn't ask my mom, because she was dead," referring to her late mother, Beth Ann, who passed away in 2015. Donald passed away in 2023, shortly after the death of his second wife, Janice, whom he was married to for over 40 years.

Sarah paid tribute to her father on Instagram, sharing a photo and writing, "My best pal, Schleppy – my dad, died last night.

"All the sisters, and grandkids surrounded him with love and singing and very dark f***ed up jokes this final week. But ultimately, he wanted to be with his love, Janice, who we lost last Monday.

"He always said he was the richest man in the world because of his family, and he was."

Silverman's new stand-up special, PostMortem, will be available to stream on Netflix from Tuesday 20 May.
