Lady Gaga has disclosed her ultimate wish to work with John Lennon, the iconic late member of The Beatles who was tragically murdered in 1980 at 40 years old.

During a fan-driven press event marking the launch of her new album Mayhem, the 38-year-old star gushed about Lennon: "I think it would have been John Lennon.

"I think he had such a beautiful heart, and I think that's one of my favourite things in like the history of music is when you don't just remember an artist for their music but you remember them for their heart."

Gaga showcased her peace sign tattoo, inspired by the vicinity of Lennon's last residence, telling fans: "This peace sign was right outside 72nd street by the Dakota, where he was sadly taken from the world, but the peace sign was there every day and Yoko would put flowers outside, I got this tattoo because of that. I never forgot what he stood for, and it's what I stand for too."

John Lennon's life ended at the Dakota's archway in New York City, shot by Mark David Chapman, a fervent American follower of The Beatles who meticulously premeditated the crime, even securing Lennon's autograph on Double Fantasy earlier that fateful day.

Furthermore, Lady Gaga has openly drawn comparisons between herself and Lennon, citing a mutual perpetual dissatisfaction with their own artistic outputs.

In a conversation with NME, she confessed: "I am perpetually unhappy with what I create.

"Even though I might tell you that 'Edge Of Glory' is a pop masterpiece, when it's all said and finished there will be things I dread, and every time I listen to it I'll hear them."

She further added, "In John Lennon's [1980] Playboy interview, he talked about how he hated certain songs because of the way they were finished. And they might be my favorite songs, but Lennon couldn't listen to them."

Lady Gaga recently released her new album and admitted a large inspiration behind one of her songs was her fiance Michael Polansky.

She co-wrote the song 'Blade of Grass' with her partner, admitting it was "very special". The couple got engaged after four years of dating.

The Bad Romance hitmaker told USA Today: "We started working on that song after we got engaged.

"A long time ago, we were in the backyard and he said, ‘If I ever propose to you, what should I do?’ I said, ‘You can just wrap a blade of grass around my finger and I'll say yes.'"
