A country music icon has been forced to let down fans on the day of one of his concerts, due to 'medical side effects' stopping him from performing.

Singer Clay Walker, who is best known for some of his music hits from the 1990s including "What's It to You" and "Dreaming with My Eyes Open", revealed he's still feeling the after effects from a medical procedure and couldn't take to the stage.

The singer, 55, has been living with multiple sclerosis (MS) since the mid nineties, with his latest health procedure intended to help him manage the condition. Yet unfortunately the side effects meant he could no longer perform for fans in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Sharing a message for fans on his Instagram, Clay apologized and explained he would no longer be able to perform that night on Saturday night (June 14). He wrote: "Dear friends and country music fans, I recently had a procedure that could really help my MS...Unfortunately I've got some side effects that have left me unable to perform tonight at Timberwood Amphitheater in Hot Springs, Arkansas."

He continued: "I really tried my best to pull through for you all, which is why I waited until this morning to make this call. I look forward to returning to Arkansas soon, and I’m bummed to miss you all tonight. We will see everyone back out on the road soon!"

The post has been flooded with support from fans, as one commented: "Take care of you brother and we’ll see ya in the near future!"

Another shared: "Your health comes first. Take care." A third posted: "Hang in there cowboy."

The venue for the concert has also confirmed the show would not go ahead but offered no plans for rescheduling. In a social media statement, they posted: "Our thoughts are with Clay Walker and we ask you to join us in wishing him better days in his health journey."

Walker has been vocal about his experience of MS, after being diagnosed in 1996 at just 26 years old. As he underwent his own health battle Walker launched the Clay Walker Foundation to help others with the disease. At the end of last year, the foundation was said to have raised $2.6 million toward MS research.
