A high-ranking Iranian official, Ebrahim Rezaei, has issued a stern warning to Donald Trump, advising him to "bring enough coffins" if the US decides to engage in an all-out war with Iran. Rezaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian parliament's national security commission, stated that Iran is unwilling to bury American soldiers on its soil following the US strikes on three nuclear sites.

He also made a pointed reference to the use of US B-2 bombers, saying: "Bring a sufficient number of coffins with you, along with the B-2."

The recent attack could mark a significant escalation in the conflict between Iran and Israel, as Iranian authorities had previously vowed to retaliate if the Trump administration increased its involvement in the war. While global leaders have called for diplomacy in response to the strikes, hardline factions, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have warned of retaliation "beyond enemy calculations."

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has stated that the US is not seeking war with Iran, emphasizing that the strikes did not target Iranian troops or civilians. "This mission was not and has not been about regime change," he clarified.

Trump took to Truth Social to comment on the strikes, saying, "This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!" The US President, who did not secure congressional approval for the strikes, has stated his readiness to initiate further attacks if Tehran retaliates, cautioning that "there will either be peace or there will be tragedy for Iran."

In response, Iran's foreign ministry accused the US of having "betrayed diplomacy" by participating in Israel's nine-day campaign within its borders and initiating a "itself launched a dangerous war against Iran."

Analysts have raised concerns about the potential ushering in of a "new era of terrorism" following the intensification of the Middle Eastern conflict. Lord Ricketts, former UK national security advisor, shared with the BBC: "This is a major strike against [Iran's] key strategic assets and so I think we have to expect that they will try and get back at American bases, American economic installations, possibly even America's allies in the Gulf."

He also suggested that the UK government would likely breathe a sigh of "relief" given that Trump did not request the use of the joint US-UK military base on Diego Garcia for the attack. "That would have meant that the UK would have to take a view on the legality of this - that they avoided doing," Lord Ricketts explained.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer confirmed the absence of UK involvement in the attack and emphasized his commitment to "de-escalating, getting people back around to negotiate what is a very real threat in relation to the nuclear programme."
