Charlie Woods takes career lesson from huge win after U.S. Open setback
Charlie Woods was able to get over the line in his first American Junior Golf Association event on Wednesday, as he won the Team TaylorMade Invitational
Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has certainly made his mark by clinching his first American Junior Golf Association trophy at the Team TaylorMade Invitational on Wednesday.
Competing in Bowling Green, Florida, the young prodigy dominated the field, finishing a staggering 15-under-par. This victory serves as a redemption for Charlie, who recently faced disappointment during U.S. Open qualifiers earlier in the month.
Sealing the deal with a six-under 66 in his last outing, Charlie overtook previous leader Luke Colton and joined the esteemed ranks of American Junior Golf Association victors, a group that includes both his father and Phil Mickelson.

This triumph might signify a pivotal moment in Charlie's budding career as he demonstrated composure and mental fortitude in the final moments of the competition. Expressing his thoughts afterward, he emphasized how critical it was to stay mentally strong during high-stakes scenarios.
"Being able to say to myself that I won an absolutely amazing event and to say I performed under some high-pressure situations is just huge going forward," said an elated Woods Jr. With his father's extraordinary achievements casting a long shadow, all eyes are often on his young son.
Nevertheless, Charlie appeared unphased by the pressure in Bowling Green, and his joy was palpable after securing the win. Sharing his emotions post-victory, he noted, "It means so much because I haven't really performed at the highest level yet," conveying the significance of this accomplishment.
"And to finally do it after all the work I have put in, and not playing well in big events in the past. Even though I know I am so much better than that, and for it all to finally come together is such a great feeling."
The journey of Woods Jr. on the grand stage has been closely followed in recent times. He struggled to make an impact in major qualifying and at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley back in March.
However, his remarkable ascent has been evident as he teamed up with his father, Tiger, at the PNC Championship over the years.
DON'T MISS
In 2024, the Woods pair came tantalizingly close to clinching the parent-child event held annually in Florida. After 36 holes, Tiger and Charlie were tied with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason. Ultimately, the German duo triumphed in a playoff.
Nonetheless, it was a week to remember for the Woods family. En route to shooting 28-under-par, Charlie scored his first-ever hole-in-one, with his dad right there to share the joy.
"That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie," Woods Sr reminisced.
"[To] make his first hole-in-one, [his daughter] Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That's what this event is about. It's about bonding and family. For us to have that experience together, I know we didn't win, but it was the fact that we competed."
