Carl Edwards ‘embarrassed' and quickly admits ‘I was wrong’ on NASCAR return
Carl Edwards made an honest admission on his first appearance on Amazon Prime Video having returned to NASCAR at the Coca-Cola 600.
Carl Edwards is back in NASCAR after years away - and it didn’t take him long to admit: “I was wrong!”.
Edwards is part of the Amazon Prime Video team which was broadcasting its first race as part of the new $7.7 billion NASCAR TV deal. He was joined on the team by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was left scrambling to correct himself after a mistake in Stage 1.
The early stages of the race saw Kyle Larson spin out from the lead, apologizing to crew chief Cliff Daniels but escaping without major damage. It came after he crashed out of the Indy 500 earlier in the day.

The stage break gave Amazon Prime Video a chance to head over to Edwards, who disappeared from NASCAR after feeling the 2016 championship was “snatched from him”, to give his thoughts on the race so far.
And he quickly admitted being “plain embarrassed” and “wrong” about the NextGen car, as he performed a U-turn live on air.
Edwards said: “Alright, I’m embarrassed. I’m plain embarrased because 104 laps in to my back to NASCAR experience, I was wrong.
“I thought these cars were simpler, easier to drive. It was harder in my day. Guys, the guys in the booth have described it perfectly, Letarte and Dale.
“Showing Denny’s in-car, his focus, his eyes…guys spinning out, Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman. It is tough and I think that’s the story right now.”

He added: “Steve (Letarte) said, ‘hey, I’d be telling my driver, calm down. The best drivers in the world are already wrecking and we’ve got a long way to go’. I think that’s the story right now for sure.”
The turns three and four section of the track proved bumpy and casued problems, which were illustrated in the in-car footage of Denny Hamlin that caught Edwards’ eye.
Speaking before the race, Hamlin said: “A lot of bumps over there, certainly. They take their toll on you. I had to open up my headrest a little bit to accommodate the bumps. It’s challenging.”
