Emma Raducanu's French Open status in doubt following injury scare
Emma Raducanu discussed the injury she picked up during a defeat to Danielle Collins in Strasbourg
Emma Raducanu has opened up about her ongoing battle with back issues, revealing another injury setback in Strasbourg. The US Open winner required a medical break during her second-round loss to Danielle Collins, returning to play through visible discomfort and ultimately succumbing to a 4-6 6-1 6-3 defeat.
Since her stunning victory at Flushing Meadows in 2021, injuries have been a recurring obstacle for Raducanu. With the French Open on the horizon, there's growing concern over her ability to maintain her strong clay-court performance amidst these physical challenges.
In a somber post-match press conference, Raducanu shared distressing details about her condition: "I felt it after the first round," she disclosed. "Yesterday I just tried to manage it, like, I got treatment. I was pretty stiff and sore. I've had back problems before. At the start of the year I was out for a few months because of it."

She continued, expressing her frustration with the persistent spasms: "Yeah, it's annoying and it's frustrating. I get these spasms and they're quite intense and can last for a long time. I'll just try and make it better."
With the French Open fast approaching, Raducanu is undoubtedly eager to overcome her back issues, especially after showing promise on clay this season.
She advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Open, where she was ultimately defeated by the tournament's runner-up, Coco Gauff. Earlier this week in Strasbourg, the young Briton showcased her prowess against Daria Kasatkina, managing to break her opponent's serve each time.
After that match, Raducanu expressed her growing comfort on clay, a surface she previously found challenging.
"I think I've been building towards this," she said. "I had three great matches in Rome and to bring that level here, I'm really proud.
"As I spend more time on clay I'm starting to like it more and more and building my relationship, let's say, with the surface."

In preparation for the French Open, Raducanu took a wildcard entry into the Strasbourg event to better adapt to clay conditions. Whether her recent injury will impact her performance at Roland Garros is yet to be determined.
