Urgent Level 4 travel warning issued by US gov for popular vacation spot
The federal government has issued a level 4 travel advisory which means "do not travel" to certain areas of a popular vacation spot.
Americans are being advised to avoid certain areas of a country known for its popular vacation destinations.
The federal government has warned Americans not to travel to the provinces of Central Papua (Papua Tengah) and Highland Papua (Papua Pegunungan) in Indonesia due to “civil unrest” as these areas are currently under a level 4 travel advisory.
A level 4 travel advisory means “do not travel” as “violent demonstrations and conflict” in these areas of Indonesia could “result in jury or death to U.S. citizens” according to the State Department.

The State Department advises Americans to avoid demonstrations and crowds as “armed separatists may kidnap foreign nationals” in these areas of Indonesia.
The State Department added that the U.S. government has “limited ability” to provide emergency services to Americans who visit these areas in Indonesia as federal government officials working in Indonesia are required to obtain “special authorization” before traveling to Central Papua and Highland Papua.
The federal government is warning citizens to use extra caution when traveling to anywhere in Indonesia as well.
The United States government is warning Americans to be careful when visiting Indonesia as it is currently under a level 2 travel advisory which means "exercise increased caution” as you “should be aware of heightened risk when you travel”.
A level 2 travel advisory is enforced when a country is still safe to visit but the country presents some safety risks so it's essential to be mindful of yor surroundings and follow local advice.
“Be aware of heightened risks to safety and security. The Department of State provides more advice for travelers to these areas in the Travel Advisory. Conditions in any country may change at any time,” The Department of State wrote on its website.
The federal government said that travel advisory levels are determined by the following factors : crime, terrorism, civil unrest, disease outbreaks and natural disasters.

The State Department said on its website that Indonesia is currently under a level 2 travel advisory due to terrorism and natural disasters.
“Terrorists continue plotting possible attacks in Indonesia. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting police stations, places of worship, hotels, bars, nightclubs, markets/shopping malls, and restaurants,” the website reads.
“Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions may result in disruptions to transportation, infrastructure, sanitation, and the availability of health services,” it continued.
“Demonstrations occur frequently and have the potential to become violent. Avoid demonstrations and crowds,” it concluded.
