'Embarrassed' American Idol fans fume over Jessica Simpson's 'horrible' performance

Jessica Simpson returned to our TV screens for the first time in 15 years, but not everyone was impressed.

The 44-year-old singer performed two songs during the American Idol finale on Sunday - her new track Blame Me and her 2005 version of These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.

While singing These Boots Are Made For Walkin', Jessica was joined by Josh King, who had earlier been eliminated from the competition. While some people were loving the duet, others took to social media to brand it "absolutely horrible."

Taking to X, one viewer admitted, "I was embarrassed watching Jessica Simpson’s performance."

Another person asked, "I was looking forward to see Josh & Jessica Simpson before But I'm disappointed, Did Jessica loss Her voice??? She sounded awful, Maybe they should got Josh to sing with Billy Joel Or Elton John!!!"

"I was embarrassed watching Jessica Simpson’s performance," a third viewer fumed while another posted, "How do you invite the great Patti LaBelle and Jennifer Holliday on American Idol, then turn around and invite Jessica Simpson? That was absolutely horrible. #AmericanIdol"

One of Jessica's fans shared, "So that was NOT the Jessica Simpson that I used to know. WOW."

A sixth person added, " The Jessica Simpson Josh King American Idol performance might be the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever seen! Even the judges are cringing! His harmonica though…"

However, not everyone was annoyed with Jessica's performance.

"I was wowed and surprised how incredible Jessica Simpson sounded. Raspy and holding tunes with attitude. Awesome! She looked hot. Josh was lame. Couldn’t keep up and didn’t know what to do. Thank God for his harmonica," one person posted.

Another praised, "#AmericanIdol Did we already know Jessica Simpson could sing? Sorry I don’t think I knew. 15 years- girl, why you hiding that gift?"

Sunday night's episode of American Idol saw Jamal Roberts crowned this season's winner, beating John Foster and Breanna Nix.

Jessica had teased fans about how she prepared for her special guest appearance on Instagram before the show. The singer posted a video showing her name on her trailer door as she wore a black knit and oversized sunglasses.
